Other questions people ask.

Do I need an account to use Biwak?

Yes. You can install and open the app without signing in, but model tasks run through your signed-in Biwak account. New accounts receive a one-off 100 trial credits; after that, you choose a subscription.

Where do my files go when I use Biwak?

Into the working folder you choose at startup, and nowhere else. Conversations are stored as files under ~/.biwak on your computer. For a model task, your question, the conversation context needed and the file content used go through Biwak’s model access to the model provider in use — which data reaches which stage is set out in the privacy policy, section 14.

Why does my operating system show a warning the first time I open it?

Because it doesn’t know the source yet. On macOS, Gatekeeper appears exactly once and asks whether you want to open the app downloaded from the internet; on Windows, the browser first holds the file back (in Edge via “···”, “Keep” and “Keep anyway”), then SmartScreen shows a notice with “More info” and “Run anyway” behind it. Neither says anything about the file’s content. If you want to check that, compare the checksum on /pruefsummen.

Do I need administrator rights to install Biwak?

Not on Windows: the installer sets Biwak up for your user account only and doesn’t touch the system. On a Mac, it depends on how your computer is managed — you can always use the “Applications” folder in your home folder; for the shared one, macOS may ask for permission.

Our IT only allows specific addresses through. Which ones do we need?

Two for everyday use: www.biwak.ai for sign-in, account and update checks, and tzvzuholjaulfzgpdeqz.supabase.co for model access — every task goes through this relay, and without it no answer comes back. For the installation file and every later update package, add github.com and release-assets.githubusercontent.com: the application asks www.biwak.ai whether there is anything new and downloads the package itself from the release attachment. If you close GitHub off again after installation, you also stop the updates. Windows 10 needs at least build 1809.

Is there a version for Linux?

On request. The build exists, but it isn’t being shipped yet. If you need Biwak on Linux, write to us — that will decide whether we bring it forward.
