Convert the bank statement into a CSV file, one row per transaction, with the columns booking date, value date, reference number, transaction type, payee/payer, description and amount (credits with a plus sign, debits with a minus sign). Semicolon as separator, decimal comma, UTF-8 with BOM. Recalculate the balance row by row in whole cents and tell me the result of the check.

In short

To convert a bank statement PDF into an Excel or CSV table with Biwak, drag the file into the window: a prepared task goes along and Biwak starts right away. If you need different columns, add that afterwards. Biwak is an AI agent from Munich: it works without a template per bank, joins payment descriptions that wrap over several lines, and is instructed to recalculate the balance row by row in whole cents. This is promised for PDFs with a text layer, with sign-in; to try it out there is a one-off 100 trial credits. Processing happens in the EU.

How to convert a bank statement.

  1. 01

    Drop the PDF

Drag the statement from your online banking into the window or choose it, several months at once if you like. Up to eight files per task, each up to 100 MB.

  2. 02

    Biwak converts it right away

A prepared task goes along with the file: one row per transaction, amounts with a sign, a balance check in whole cents, as CSV or Excel. You watch Biwak at work.

  3. 03

    Check, adjust, download

The check is in the reply. If you want other columns, outgoings only or one sheet per month, just add it in the chat. The table appears as a card in the chat; one click downloads it.

Three lines on the statement become one row in the table.

  • Date, payee and description span three lines on the statement and one row in the table.
  • “Ref. 08-001” becomes the reference number 08-001, with its leading zero.
  • Opening balance, carry-over and closing balance are not transactions and are left out of the table.
  • Date as DD.MM.YYYY, amount with a decimal comma and a sign: that is how Excel with German settings reads the file directly.

Why table recognition fails on bank statements.

A bank statement is rarely a table. Often it has no lines, one transaction spans three lines, and carry-overs and balances sit in between.

On 24 September 2026, we broke down an invented sample statement with 16 transactions in four rule-based ways: with the pdfplumber and PyMuPDF libraries for table recognition, and with Poppler's text output. None of the four produced even one complete transaction row, 0 out of 16. Only a script with a rule written for exactly this layout reached 16 out of 16. Online converters, language models and Biwak itself were not part of this measurement. The measurement in the guide

How Biwak goes about it

  1. Biwak breaks down the first transactions and looks at what comes out.
  2. It adapts its rule to the layout of your statement instead of needing a template per bank.
  3. It is instructed to recalculate the running balance in whole cents and not to bend any amount to fit.
  4. If the check does not add up, it points out where, instead of smoothing it over.

How well this works for your statement is shown by the check in the answer.

Then keep working.

The same chat can do more than convert. Four sentences you can write straight afterwards:

  • “Put all statements from 2026 into one table, one sheet per month.”
  • “Sort the outgoings into rent, software, travel and other, and total each group.”
  • “Which direct debits recur every month? List them with amount and payee.”
  • “Match the incoming payments against offene-rechnungen.xlsx and mark what is still outstanding.”

Where your bank statements stay.

In the browser
You upload the files to your workspace on the Biwak server in Paris; tasks and answers are stored in our database in Frankfurt am Main.
In the app
With Biwak for macOS and Windows, the files stay in your folder on your computer. The task, conversation context and the file contents used go to the model.
Processing
Processing happens in the EU: on Microsoft Azure in the EU Data Zone, alternatively via Prem AI (contracting party PREM SA, Switzerland).
Training
None on your content.
Access
Only for a stated reason, with every access logged. While the browser workspace is a preview feature, quality review is one such reason; you can object at any time.
DPA
For businesses, Biwak’s data processing agreement applies; there is then no quality check. Even so, only use statements containing customer or employee data after your own assessment.

What it costs.

After email confirmation, you get a one-off 100 trial credits, with no payment details. After that, a subscription applies: Base Camp for €19 a month with 1,500 credits or Rope Team for €99 with 9,000 credits, cancellable monthly. Final prices, no VAT charged under § 19 UStG (German small-business VAT exemption).

How many credits a conversion needs depends on the number of pages and the performance level; you see the usage after every task.

All plans

When you do not need Biwak for this.

If your online banking offers the transactions as a CSV file or in camt.053 format (the standard electronic bank statement), use that export: it comes straight from the bank's data. Biwak is worth it for the PDFs you already have: older statements, accounts at several banks, statements someone sends you.

Biwak does not post bookings. The table is a working draft that you check; there is no connection to DATEV (Germany's standard accounting software), Lexware or your online banking.

Frequently asked questions

Which banks does Biwak understand?

Biwak works without a template per bank: it breaks down the first transactions, adapts its rule and checks the result against the balance. That is why we do not keep a list of tested banks. The check shows whether amounts are missing or counted twice; dates and texts are best spot-checked.

Does it also work with scanned bank statements?

The conversion is promised for PDFs with a text layer, as produced by online banking: if you can select a word in the statement, there is a text layer. Biwak reads scanned pages as images, without its own text recognition; how well that works depends on the scan, so we promise no result for it.

Do I get CSV or Excel?

Both. In the browser workspace, Biwak can also create an Excel file (.xlsx) on request; just say so in the task. In the app for macOS and Windows, CSV is the promised route.

Can I import the table into DATEV, Lexware or sevDesk?

Biwak writes the columns in the order and format you specify in the task, for example as in your program's import template. There is no direct connection; you do the import yourself.

How reliable is the result?

Biwak is instructed to recalculate the running balance row by row in whole cents and not to bend any amount to fit. If the check does not add up, Biwak points out where. An instruction is not a guarantee: look at any flagged places before you use the table further.

What does it cost?

To try it out, a one-off 100 trial credits with no payment details, then a subscription from €19 a month. You can see the usage after every task.

Do I need an account?

Yes. You sign in with an email code, passkey or Google account; the chat then starts right on this page. A PDF you dragged in beforehand waits in your browser until then.

Where are my bank statements processed?

In the browser, you upload the files to the Biwak server in Paris, and processing happens in the EU. With the app for macOS and Windows, the files stay on your computer; the task, conversation context and the file contents used go to the model.

Do I still need to keep the PDF afterwards?

Yes, the table does not replace the statement. Accounting vouchers, which in a business as a rule include bank statements, must be kept for eight years (§ 147(1) no. 4 and (3) AO, the German Fiscal Code), and a reproduction must match the voucher visually (§ 147(2) AO). The CSV is your working copy.
